El Sistema, was Founded in 1975 by Venezuelan musician, educator, economist and activist,  José Antonio Abreu. 

 In 1990 with a vision of “Music for Social Change”, Dr. Abreu then established the Simon Bolivar Orchestra. made up of musicians from the first fifteen years of his organization’s education programs. Alumni include Gustavo Dudamel, conductor and music director of The Los Angeles Philharmonic.

The organic growth of El Sistema can be heard in performances by youth orchestras and ensembles in concert halls worldwide. The student's journey encompasses passion for a musical instrument, theory, structure and the rigors of practice, and preparation for orchestral performances. Maestro Dudamel, is part of the ongoing legacy of Dr. Abreu’s vision of the exponential impact of music education networks on the economics and purpose of remote communities the world over.
